Conservation Central is part of the website of the Smithsonian National Zoo. They offer interactive learning modules to learn more about the habitat of the Great Panda and the Black Bear. You can design a panda habitat or take a walk through the temperate forests of West Virginia. On the forest walk, you will test the soil pH, determine which kinds of tress grow there, use a dichotomous key to identify trees, map biodiversity and more. There is also a six-module downloadable Middle School curriculum called Finding Common Ground that ties all of the simulations together to learn about conservation. As a whole, this is aimed at Middle Schoolers, but some of the simulations would work for upper Elementary. And it’s all FREE!
